How Can We Celebrate Thanksgiving Day?

Thanksgiving Day 2021 date: In 2021, Thanksgiving Day will be celebrated on November 25.

Thanksgiving Day is meant to celebrate the harvest season and other blessings of the year gone by. People will give thanks for what they have.

The day is a public holiday, it is a day off for the general population. Most government offices, businesses, other organizations, and schools are closed, so families and friends can get together for a meal. The traditionally served dishes are roast turkey, pumpkin pie, squash, corn, green beans, celery stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and gravy.

Thanksgiving may originally have had religious significance. The First Thanksgiving was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in 1621. The second one was in 1923, to mark the end of a long drought that had threatened the year’s harvest and prompted Governor Bradford to call for a religious fast. The day has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789, with a proclamation by President George Washington after a request by Congress.

Nowadays, Thanksgiving has become a mostly secular holiday. Most people consider the holiday a day to gather and express their thanks through food with the dear family. During some Thanksgiving celebrations, people write down what they are thankful for and then read aloud from the piece of paper.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a big impact on the way we can celebrate this important day. Therefore, we should celebrate virtually to stay safe. Facetime, Skype, Zoom, or Google meeting would be a great way to meet your friends and family. Set up a call in advance, sit down and enjoy your meal while chatting online.

Since Thanksgiving is traditionally a family celebration, gift-giving to the members, friends, and business associates could offer a very special meaning of thanks. It may be more touching than any time of the year to receive a card; gift or thank you note on this special occasion.
